Disease Prevention
Donate to protect MJS students from disease so they can thrive.
In rural Uganda, good health is essential for good learning.
Good health is essential for good learning. That’s why Blessings of Joy invests in disease prevention programs that protect children from parasites, infections, and environmental dangers that could keep them out of the classroom.
Shoes
Walking barefoot exposes children to jiggers—parasitic sand fleas that cause extreme pain and infection. BOJ’s Shoe Program ensures all students receive durable, leather shoes made by a local cobbler. Since the program began, MJS has reported zero jigger cases.
Dental Health
Tooth decay is common and painful, often going untreated. In partnership with local dentists and the Build Your Smile program, children receive regular dental checkups, toothbrushes, floss, and education in proper oral hygiene.
Deworming & Vaccination
All students receive deworming medication twice a year, which helps prevent anemia, stunted growth, and malnutrition. Vitamin supplements and health screenings support their immune systems and development.
Hygiene & Hand Washing
MJS maintains multiple handwashing stations with soap and clean water. Students are trained weekly during health parades and have helped bring handwashing education to their own families through the use of "tippy taps"—simple, foot-operated water dispensers used in homes without plumbing.
When children are protected from illness, they’re free to learn, play, and grow.
