Nourishing Bodies, Fueling Minds

In Uganda, hunger is more than just an empty stomach—it’s a barrier to learning, growth, and health. With one of the highest rates of child malnutrition in Africa, many children face daily challenges due to undernutrition and intestinal parasites. Without proper nourishment, focusing in school becomes nearly impossible.

At Mweruka Junior School (MJS), we are committed to changing that. Every school day, we provide a hot, nutritious meal to approximately 420 students and staff. Four days a week, they receive porridge made with maize, soy, sugar, milk, and Body Boosters, a supplement designed to provide essential nutrients. Once a week, students enjoy a hearty stew of potatoes, beans, sardines, carrots, and seasonings, along with fresh, in-season fruit.

Beyond daily meals, we take extra steps to safeguard the health of these children. Twice a year, each student receives deworming medication and multivitamins rich in Vitamin A and iron, helping to combat deficiencies that weaken their immune systems and hinder their development.

A meal may seem small, but for these students, it means the difference between struggling and thriving. With every bowl of porridge, we are not just feeding bodies—we are fueling minds, nurturing potential, and giving these children a chance at a brighter future.
